The federal government is seeking full repayment of about $1.4 million in grant funds used to support housing programs in Albuquerque.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development also has declared the city a “high-risk grantee” — a designation that could result in a freeze on Albuquerque’s ability to tap into its Community Development Block Grant funds if there’s no improvement, federal officials say.
It isn’t clear how much money is at stake, but HUD warned the city that
it’s imposing special conditions on Albuquerque’s grant funding this year and that failing to comply could result in a halt to “the city’s ability to draw down from its HUD accounts,” according to a federal spokeswoman.
The department has raised questions about the city’s recordkeeping, oversight and administration of federal money for housing programs that help low-income people. Some of the deficiencies have been flagged repeatedly, according to a letter from HUD to the city this fall.
Mayor Richard Berry’s administration, meanwhile, says it has assembled a team of experts within City Hall to address the HUD findings. The city also hopes to hang on to some or all of the $1.1million in grant money targeted for repayment.

security questions and answers. Not all of these data elements may have
been present for your account. The investigation indicates that the
stolen information did not include passwords in clear text, payment card
data, or bank account information. Payment card data and bank account
information are not stored in the system we believe was affected.
What We Are Doing
We are taking action to protect our users:
We are requiring potentially affected users to change their passwords.
We invalidated unencrypted security questions and answers so that they cannot be used to access an account.
We continuously enhance our safeguards and systems that detect and prevent unauthorized access to user accounts.

We encourage you to follow these security recommendations:
Change your
passwords and security questions and answers for any other accounts on
which you used the same or similar information used for your Yahoo
account.
Review all of your accounts for suspicious activity.
Be cautious of
any unsolicited communications that ask for your personal information

Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from suspicious emails.

Three children and a woman ‘involved’ in incident, and no suspects are at large, APD says

A
woman and three children were rushed to the University of New Mexico
Hospital trauma center after a shooting in Albuquerque’s Four Hills
neighborhood Monday night, according to police.
But
authorities were tight-lipped with details about the shooting, which
left the prosperous southeast neighborhood blocked off with crime tape
and crawling with officers late into Monday night.
Around
10:30 p.m., police spokesman Fred Duran addressed reporters and said
three children and a woman were “involved” in the shooting. The
department later posted on social media that the women and children were
all taken to the hospital.
Although the
Journal has heard reports from multiple sources that at least one child
was killed, police wouldn’t confirm that information.
“There are children involved, there is an adult involved. However, the status is unknown at this time,” Duran said.
Neither
Duran nor Police Chief Gorden Eden, who briefly answered questions
outside the crime tape earlier in the night, would say what condition
the victims are in, their ages or how they know each other.
“We
do not have a clear understanding of their relationships (to one
another),” Eden said. “We depend on UNMH to treat patients before we
start asking them questions.”
He said detectives were investigating to gather more information.
“We
have detectives currently at the hospital trying to interview victims
as well as detectives that have arrived at the scene and are now
interviewing people in the neighborhood,” he said.
Eden
wouldn’t clarify whether the suspect had been shot, was dead or was in
custody. He told reporters no suspects were at large. Officers were
called to the area near Stagecoach and Sagebrush Trail SE around 6:30
p.m. Duran said more than one home on Stagecoach SE had been designated
as a crime scene, but he didn’t detail what happened where.
