"ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —Some Albuquerque Public School parents and retired teachers are upset the district is losing money to costly buyouts, along with the money that went into the hires.
Gerald Schneider is a former APS teacher. He said the school board has made some costly decisions when it comes to the district’s leader.
“The last two (Winston Brooks and Luis Valentino) have been duds,” Schneider said.
Brooks and Valentino share a similar back story -- both ended up in Albuquerque because of a company called Ray and Associates.
In 2007, the APS school board paid the recruiting firm $125,000 to launch a nationwide search for its next superintendent. That search ended with Brooks getting the job.
